Fennel - A Perennial Herbaceous Plant
Umbelliferae with an aromatic fragrance
Fennel belongs to the umbellifer family and is a perennial, herbaceous plant that can grow up to 200 cm high. Originally, fennel is a plant cultivated in the Mediterranean region. It needs nutrient-rich loamy soil that is alkaline and moist. It can be grown from seed as an annual too. The seeds are very popular as a spice in the kitchen. The intense, slightly sweet taste is particularly popular in Chinese and Indian cuisine. It can also be added to desserts for a wonderful aroma.
